Professor Michaela Lucas is a practising Immunologist/Allergist, Immunopathologist and Clinician-Scientist based in Perth, Western Australia. She works across two tertiary hospitals, with appointments at the adult Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, the Perth Children Hospital, as well as PathWest Laboratory Medicine and the University of Western Australia. She leads a multi-disciplinary research team at the UWA Immunology and Transplantation Laboratory.
Trained in Germany, she received a Marie Curie TMR Research Fellowship and completed a postdoctoral position at Oxford, pioneering research on liver T-cell immunology. With over 150 peer-reviewed papers, her work focuses broadly on T-cell immunology, including drug allergies, vaccine development and solid organ transplantation tolerance and rejection.
Professor Lucas has led multiple clinical research trial and is the principal investigator of the ongoing Plastic Exposure Reduction Transforms Health (PERTH) trial. A WA Women’s Hall of Fame inductee, she is a national leader in drug allergy management, co-chair and director of the National Allergy Council, co-chair of the Drug Allergy Stream at the National Allergy Centre of Excellence and past president of the Australian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA).
