Dr Vainav Patel is currently Scientist F and heads the Viral Immunopathogenesis Lab at ICMR-NIRRCH, Mumbai. He also has served as Nodal Officer of Covid19 team of the institute.
He is also the Vice President (Basic Research) of The Cytometry Society of India (TCS) with 20 years of experience with the technology.
Dr Patel obtained his PhD from CRI, presently known as ACTREC and then underwent Post Doctoral Training NIH (Vaccine Branch, NCI), returning to join NIRRCH with a Ramalingaswami Fellowship in 2011.
His research interests are in viral pathogenesis and evolution, immune monitoring and vaccine development in the context of acute and chronic viral infections such as HIV, HCMV, SARS-CoV-2.
He has 64 publications (h-index, 21; i10 index, 35), active international grants from NIH and DBT Wellcome Trust, is guiding 6 PhD students currently and serving as a Reviewer or Guest Editor for several international peer reviewed publications.
